Clee Class News
New Balance Bikes!
Shropshire Council are partnering with The Bikeability Trust to trial a new approach to cycle training in schools. We have had the opportunity to be part of this exciting pilot programme and train members of staff up to deliver training to our pupils in school. We have just received 6 new balance bikes for our children to learn to cycle!
Parent Reading Workshop
Thank you to all the parents that attended the reading workshop this morning. If you could take a moment of your time to complete the feedback for on the link below it would be most helpful.
Singing Assembly
We have been learning some new songs in our singing assembly this week.
Couscous
This week we made our couscous dish as part of our design technology work.
Baby Day
Today Clee Class took care of all the babies. We learnt how to change them, feed them, play with them and look after them. The children wrote a list of all the things they would need for their baby. We also did a treasure hunt finding all the baby items around the field. Throughout the day we sang nursery rhymes and played peek-a-boo with our babies. Finally we finished the day off with some jelly baby addition and enjoy eating some jelly babies too!
Porridge
As part of our work on Goldilocks and the Three Bears we had a go at making our own porridge. It wasn’t too hot, it wasn’t too cold – it was just right! 🙂 As well as making porridge Clee Class had to chop up their own fruit to go on top. It was very yummy!
Bread
Today we had a parcel delivered to us – it was from The Little Red Hen. She had no bread left to sell in her bakery so asked for our help! We set to work making the bread to send off to her. The children really enjoyed making the bread.
Phonics Squish
We’ve been using play dough as sound buttons to help us read words.
Mighty Muscles
Everyday we are working on our ‘Mighty Muscles’ with fine and gross motor activities.

Acorns
At lunchtime something had fallen on Miss Lady’s head. We needed to use our investigative skills to find out what it was – an acorn! We found out that acorns grow on oak tree’s and fall off during the Autumn. We also found a pile of hidden acorns that we thought a squirrel might have gathered.
Brushing teeth
This afternoon we continued to learn about how to look after ourselves. We talked about when and how we should brush our teeth then we had a practise!
Field to fork
This afternoon we watched a video showing us how porridge is made from oats. We looked at how it is harvested on the farm and taken to a factory. We were very lucky to have a range of crops to look at which were donated by Olivia – thank you! If anyone else has any resources which could be used for our field to fork topic please speak to Miss Lacy.
Star Dome
Last week Techniquest (Wrexham) came into school to talk to all the children about our solar system and the stars. The children enjoyed learning about the different star constellations, their names and many facts about the planets in our galaxy. We all had lots of fun!
Newsletters
Our termly newsletter is now available on the ‘Information’ page of our class page.
Find the numbers!
This weekend can you look out for numbers in the environment and talk to your children about them.
Our Topic
This half term our topic is ‘Superheroes.’ This topic gives us the opportunity to explore the curriculum through a range of stories, poems and non fiction texts.
Literacy
Every week or two weeks will be themed around a specific story or information text that links to our topic. We will be focussing on retelling stories through role play, speaking and listening and building upon their existing and new vocabulary as well as giving the children opportunities to write. I would encourage you to find opportunities to support your child by reading with them and encouraging them to talk and retell the story (of your choice) as well as introducing new vocabulary.
Maths
In Maths this term we will be mostly focusing on number. The children will be learning about recognising numerals of personal significance, counting, recognising numbers and recording using marks they can interpret and explain. I would encourage you to explore numbers with your child by noticing numbers they can see in the environment, counting objects and making sets.
Topic
We will be learning about Ourselves, through healthy eating and learning about our bodies, People who help us – local Superheroes e.g. Police, Vets, Fire Service etc. and our superhero families.
Reading
All children will read their individual books in school and will have opportunities for guided reading. In class we focus reading mainly through phonics to support your child’s development in their word building skills.
