Story Planning

Today we our planning our stories ready to write them next week. One story is about a fox whose home gets destroyed by builders. The other story is about a park which is full of rubbish and needs clearing up. The children are using the Messy Magpie story as inspiration and are demonstrating excellent teamwork.

Letter from Ferdinand

Today we opened some envelopes and had to work out whether we had opened a letter, some instructions, a card or a story. We then received a letter from Ferdinand asking for our help! We will be using our finger spaces, capital letters, full stops and exclamation marks when we write to the matadors to tell them to stop fighting Ferdinand and his friends. Wrekin Class are very excited and can’t wait to get started with our letters. Some children suggested that we go on a plane to Spain to tell the matadors we want them to stop – Miss Pugh said this was a great idea but I think it would cost too much money so writing a letter would be better!

Poppy Biscuits

Today we continued our work on instructions and made poppy biscuits. Wrekin Class enjoyed being the first class to use the new cooking room and their biscuits looked and tasted fantastic!

Firework Painting

This week we are looking at instruction writing. Today we followed instructions to paint firework picture using marbles. We worked as a class to find the words which were verbs and had a go at pretending to do some of the actions before we did our pictures.

Pizza Express!

What a fun morning!

Mission – replace the books!

As part of our English work we have been planning how to make and write an information book. We were asked by the Museum of London to make some information books on the great fire of London as they had lost all of theirs! The children are really engaged with their writing and are excited to send their books to the library! Today we used teabags to make our book covers look old-fashioned. We also found out some more information about the great fire and used a dictionary to find definitions for our key words. Our books should be ready by Friday .

Investigators and Artifacts…

On Monday we rushed to the forest school area as we had been told there had been a fire! We found lots of suspicious objects in the forest and started to think about who could have caused the fire. This week we will be using describing words (adjectives) to describe these artifacts and writing a recount about our discoveries in the forest. All of this excitement has and will lead to brilliant writing and a great interest in our topic of The Great Fire of London.
