Homework

We ask that children work on three basic skills at home – reading, spellings and times tables. These are all taught in school but require lots of practise both in school and at home!

Reading Aim to complete 4 reads (20 minutes or more) per week at home. Record this in your Reading Record—hand this in on Friday morning. Please could an adult sign the four reads in the Reading Record (Home Links book). If they complete and record 4 reads per week your child will receive one Dojo point. Your child can change their book as soon as they have finished reading it or if they are not enjoying it. As soon as your child has finished their ’take home’ book they can take an Accelerated Reader quiz. Using a unique parent login (please ask me if you require a login) you can track the achievements of your child in these quizzes.  It is sometimes possible for children to take quizzes on books that you have purchased/borrowed (please note that quizzes can only be completed in school).

Spellings will be set on Tuesdays as 10 online games on Spelling Shed www.spellingshed.com  (paper-copy available on request), Your child will receive a Dojo point for completing their spelling assignment on Spelling Shed or completing fully the paper copy by Tuesday.

Times Tables homework will be set on Thursdays using Times Tables Rock Stars  https://ttrockstars.com/login (please ask if you prefer a paper copy). Your child will receive a Dojo point for completing all set games on Times Tables Rock Stars or completing the paper version by the following Wednesday. Your child also has access to Maths Shed if they wish which offers a chance to work on various maths skills.

There is access to online homework resources during most lunch times if needed, but this relies on your child choosing to do this.

All homework will be rewarded with a Dojo point each week so this will enable you to keep track of how much is being completed.

If you have any questions, please contact me on Class Dojo.

Many Thanks

Mrs Holloway

Homework

Please support your child by listening to them read each night and help them practise any spellings sent home. This year the children will have the opportunity to practise their spellings at home online, using the Spelling Shed App!

Children will have frequent times tables quizzes in school. Regular time spent on Times Tables Rockstars last year had a big impact on the children’s accuracy and fluency of multiplication and division facts.  Please encourage your child to use their logins at home as often as possible. The children need to know all tables facts by the end of Year 4!

Topic projects—We will be preparing a set of project ideas to support our topic of Extreme Environments. They wlll be sent home soon—watch this space!!

Homework

Spellings will be sent home on Wednesdays. The spellings can also be viewed on Class Dojo plus your child can log on to www.spellingshed.com to practise. Your child will receive a Dojo point for completing their spelling assignment on Spelling Shed or by practising their spellings 4 times in their book by the following Wednesday.

Times Tables homework will be set on Wednesdays using Times Tables Rock Stars  https://ttrockstars.com/login (please ask if you prefer a paper copy). Your child will receive a Dojo point for completing all set games on Times Tables Rock Stars or completing the paper version by the following Wednesday.

Reading at home for pleasure on a regular basis is vital and research has shown that regular reading is a powerful factor in achievement in later life. For every four signed reads per week in your child’s Reading Record book they will receive one Dojo point. Reading Records are checked every Friday. Your child can change their book as soon as they have finished reading it.

Reading Teddy

We have a new class teddy! Each week a child will be chosen to take the teddy home. This teddy loves to be read to and enjoys lots of cuddles. Teddy will be given out on a Friday and needs to be returned the following Friday.

Show and Tell

We will not be doing ‘show and tell’ this year. Of course if children get something special they want to bring to share with the class that would be lovely. For example certificates, postcards, some writing etc.

Home Work

Please continue to support your child by listening to them read each night and to practise spellings sent home.

We are also using a new online program called ‘Spelling Shed’ to help your child with their spellings.  A log in will be sent home and spellings will be assigned next week.

Egg Rolling

All children will need to bring a hard-boiled egg on the last day of term to take part in the egg rolling competition. Eggs can be painted or crayoned but not varnished or coated in plastic. The eggs are rolled one at a time down a ramp on the playground to see which one will go the furthest. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each class. Parents and friends are invited along to join in the fun.

Clee, Wrekin and Caradoc classes will roll their eggs between 2.00 p.m. and 2.30 p.m.

Lawley, Stiperstones and Long Mynd will roll their eggs between 2.30 p.m. and 3.00 p.m.

Easter Egg Hunt

The PTA are having a Easter Egg hunt after school on Thursday 11th April at 3.00pm. The cost is £2 per ticket and needs to be paid for by Friday 5th April to ensure that we have enough prizes. To pay for this event please send your child with the correct money into class. Each class will keep a record of the tickets purchased. The tickets will then be handed out on the day of the Easter Egg Hunt. Your family can then find the missing letters to spell out the name of our special Easter Bunny and return to the front of school to collect their prize. A guaranteed Easter Egg for every ticket purchased!

Key Stage 2 Brass Concert

Key Stage 2 Brass Concert

On Wednesday 3rd April the children in Year 4,5 & 6 will be performing a brass assembly for parents at 2.30pm. It will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to show case their amazing achievements in learning to play their instruments.

Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands

Last week Stiperstones battled against Long Mynd Class on TT-Rock Stars. Stiperstones won the first game in the tournament with an amazing 86872 coins earnt. Certificates will also be given out in assembly for the most 3 valued players in each class who earnt the most coins. The next battle (Lawley Class against Long Mynd Class) began today at 9am and will continue until Thursday at 3pm.

We are currently focusing on the leadership board, which measures the average speed of the children at the school on TT Rock Stars. Minsterley Primary School currently sits at second place and we have high aims to take the top of the leadership board within the next few weeks.

Online cashless system

Online cashless system

We are currently setting up an online cashless system for school that links up to a text messaging service. Our aim is to be a cashless school from after the Easter holidays. This means that you will be able to pay for visits, lunch, uniform and sign up to breakfast club by making the payments from online. The system will be live from April 1st and will be in full use from 29th April, please can you ensure that school have up to date mobile phone numbers to enable our text messaging system to be set up correctly.

School Dinners

School Dinners

We have held our price for school meals at Minsterley School very successfully for a few years now at £2.10 per lunch.  However, despite our best efforts the price of £2.10 does not enable us to cover the total cost of the school meals at the School.  This means that we must raise the cost. As a result, we have taken the decision that the price of a school meal will increase to £2.20 per meal from 29th March. This is in line with other local schools some of whom already charge £2.20.
